Lowell Sun: Trahan: I’ll fight for Armed Services post
“The owner of Specialty Materials Inc. is grateful that the district’s congressman has served on the House Armed Services Committee for the last 25 years.
If not for that consistent champion in Washington, D.C., Monte Treasure’s business on Middlesex Street in Lowell may not have received as many defense contracts.
“The Armed Services Committee is really the only access we have to voice our opinion,” he said at the factory on Friday. “For a small business like us, we need to get that visibility, and have somebody advocating for us.”
For the last 25 years, that advocate has been Marty Meehan and then Niki Tsongas, who is not seeking re-election this fall.
A candidate for Tsongas’ 3rd Congressional District seat pledged at Specialty Materials on Friday that if elected, she would fight to serve on the House Armed Services Committee and continue that district tradition.
Lori Trahan, one of the many candidates for the 3rd District, toured the factory and discussed the importance of defense spending. Speaking to employees, Trahan said she deeply understands the role as a committee member, and how it relates to the country’s national security.”
