Lori Trahan Campaign Announces Endorsement of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 791
LOWELL, March 15, 2018 — The Lori Trahan Campaign today announced the endorsement of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 791. The announcement marks the sixth labor endorsement for Trahan, who has the backing of the Teamsters Local 25, Iron Workers Local 7, Local 3126 Westford Firefighters, Local 1839 Chelmsford Firefighters, and Local 853 Lowell Firefighters.
“As the daughter of an union ironworker with strong local roots and experience working in a Congressional office, Lori has what it takes to be an effective voice for labor in Washington,” said Peter Derouen, Political Director for UFCW Local 791. “She understands the issues that are important to working families and will be an effective champion for labor in Congress.”
UFCW Local 791 has a long history of protecting the rights of workers in Massachusetts and New England. For more than 50 years, UFCW Local 791 has provided the highest of quality collective bargaining to its members, resulting in improved wages and working conditions for all of its members. During this time, Local 791 grew from a small, independent union to an affiliate of one of the largest unions in the United States, representing more than 4,000 members today.
“The support of UFCW Local 791 is a tremendous honor,” Trahan said. “In Republican State legislatures across the country, labor unions are under attack by Right to Work Laws designed to strip them of their collective bargaining rights. I plan on defending the rights of our workers and always being their champion.”
