The Boston Globe Endorses Lori Trahan for Congress in Third District
Massachusetts’ largest newspaper joins the Boston Herald, the Lowell Sun and the Fitchburg Sentinel & Enterprise in supporting Trahan
LOWELL, Mass. — The Boston Globe, New England’s newspaper of record, today endorsed Lori Trahan, Democrat for Congress, in the Third District. This marks the fourth newspaper endorsement for Trahan, with the Boston Herald, Lowell Sun and Fitchburg Sentinel & Enterprise also supporting her candidacy.
“The Democrats should put up their best — and in a strong Third District field, that’s Lori Trahan,” wrote The Boston Globe. “Like Tsongas, (Trahan) has deep roots in the district, a granular understanding of what she hopes to accomplish in Washington, and the right background for the job.”
The Boston Globe cited the Lowell native’s experience as a Congressional chief of staff, her work in the private sector, and her roots in the Third District among the reasons for its endorsement.
“Trahan provided a good example of why her background matters, and how it would help shape her agenda in Congress,” the newspaper wrote, adding that “Trahan hasn’t overpromised on the campaign trail.”
Trahan said she was proud and thankful to earn the support from The Boston Globe and the other newspapers.
“It’s an honor to have support of the Boston Globe,” said Trahan. “Over the last 10 months, I’ve worked hard to convey to the working families of this district that their needs are best served by someone who was born here, was raised here, and stayed here,” Trahan said. “It’s a message that is resonating with voters, and one we will continue to pound until the polls close Sept. 4.”
