Trahan Campaign Now Boasts Support of Six Fire Unions
LOWELL, Mass. (April 27, 2018) – The campaign for congressional candidate Lori Trahan announced today that Local 1011 Haverhill Firefighters and Methuen Firefighters Local 1691 have endorsed her in the race for Massachusetts’ Third District seat. They are the fifth and sixth firefighter unions to endorse the Lowell Democrat, who has garnered unparalleled support among first responders in this race. To date, Trahan has the endorsements of Marlborough Firefighters Local 1714, Local 853 Lowell Firefighters, Local 3126 Westford Firefighters and Local 1839 Chelmsford Firefighters.
Both unions had high praise for Trahan, citing her local roots in the decision to endorse her.
“We are very proud to endorse Lori in the race for the Third District seat,” said Tim Carroll, President of Local 1011. “The big thing for us was her local roots. She grew up here, she’s already worked in Washington for this district, and she lives here now. We want someone representing us who is actually from here, who knows the district and its needs. Lori knows them better than anyone else in this race.”
“Endorsing Lori was an easy decision for us,” said Kevin Barry, President of Local 1691. “We sized up all the candidates and Lori was the one with the strongest ties to this district. Ultimately, we felt more comfortable supporting somebody who has lived here for her entire life and served this region for nearly a decade. She certainly has the skill-set to be an effective advocate in Washington for us. She’s the most authentic voice for the District in this race.”
Trahan was honored by both unions’ support.
“I can’t begin to tell you how proud I am to have the endorsement of both the Haverhill and Methuen firefighters. It’s a tremendous honor,” she said. “Both fire departments are pillars within their communities. They are our heroes who’ve dedicated their lives to protecting ours, not just by fighting fires, but by teaching our children about fire prevention, and by being first responders for our medical emergencies. They are truly some of the best men and women the Third District has to offer. I look forward to being their champion in Washington.”
With these latest endorsements, Trahan now has nine labor unions supporting her camping, including: Iron Workers Local 7, Teamsters Local 25, Local 1714 Marlborough Firefighters, UFCW Local 791, Local 3126 Westford Firefighters, Local 1839 Chelmsford Firefighters, and Local 853 Lowell Firefighters.
