March 2, 2018, Lowell, MA — Today, Lori Trahan’s campaign proudly announced the endorsement of Local 3126 Westford Firefighters and Local 1839 Chelmsford Firefighters, representing the latest in a series union endorsements for Trahan. Teamsters Local 25, Iron Workers Local 7 and Local 853 Lowell Firefighters have also endorsed Trahan.

“Firefighters are so important to the safety and health of our communities. They risk their lives to keep us safe,” said Trahan. “I, in turn, will do everything in my power to ensure they have the equipment and funding needed to do their jobs and to keep them safe.”

Both the Westford and Chelmsford Fire Departments have a rich history of serving the Third Congressional District. The Westford Fire Department, which has been saving lives for more than 100 years, is home to one of the longest running ambulance services in the greater Lowell region. The Chelmsford Fire Department can trace its roots back to the early 1900s as well, and responded to more than 7,000 calls in 2017 alone.

Both unions expressed a shared excitement about endorsing Trahan.

“The issues that are important to Lori are the issues that are important to us — access to resources so we can continue to protect members of our community, supporting a safe work environment, and ensuring that our men and women get home safely after every shift,” said Dave Greenwood, President of Local 3126 Westford Firefighters. “We are proud to stand with Lori, and we know she will be a strong advocate for Local 3126.”

“We’ve taken a good look at the field, and there’s no question that Lori is the most qualified to fight for our needs in Washington,” said David Houle, President of Chelmsford Fire Local 1839. “With her union family background and clear support for working men and women, we know Lori will be an effective advocate for the issues we care most about.”

February 15, 2018, Lowell, MA – Lori Trahan’s Campaign for Congress today announced the opening of new campaign headquarters at 58 Prescott Street in in downtown Lowell. The campaign will host an Open House at the new space this Saturday, February 17, from 2-4pm for friends and supporters to stop by and meet the candidate, as well as learn about opportunities to get involved in the campaign. The event is open to the public and all are welcome, including local media.

I am excited to open my campaign headquarters in the community where I was raised,” said Trahan. “As a kid who bought lots of gear at Lull and Hartford’s for the various sports I played growing up, it’s fun to open the door each day and be reminded of the community I hope to serve in Washington.”

In addition, the Campaign announced several additions to the team:

• Jackie Bart is serving as Finance Director. She studied Public Relations at the University of Rhode Island, in addition to working as a teaching assistant for fifth graders, a newsroom intern at WPRI, and a social media intern at RDW Group.
• Jonathan Latino has been hired as Communications Manager. Jon recently earned a M.S. from Boston University’s College of Communication, and has interned at O’Neill & Associates and ML Strategies, as well as The Roosevelt Group and the Office of Congressman James McGovern in Washington, D.C.
• Tom Giancola joined the team as Field Manager. Tom previously did field work in New Hampshire for Bernie Sanders for President, along with Eric Kingson for Congress in Syracuse, NY. He also worked as an intern for the U.S. House Budget Committee, and has a B.A. and a M.S. in Public Policy from the University of New Hampshire.
• Grace Pezzella has been named a Finance Assistant. Prior to the campaign, Grace interned for Senator Edward Markey with a focus on Immigration and Housing. Grace earned a degree in American History from Bates College.
• Pat Harkins joins the team as Campaign Coordinator after graduating with a B.S. in Political Science from Rivier University, and working on staff for Ted Gatsas’ campaign for Mayor of Manchester, and the Lowell National Historical Park.

Lori Trahan joined other candidates for the Third District Congressional Race to discuss transportation, climate change and higher education:

Lori Trahan: Upgrading transportation infrastructure — including repairing the district’s crumbling bridges is critical. “I think that’s everywhere in this district,” she said. Trahan — chief of staff for former congressman Marty Meehan — called for more investments in public education and making higher education more affordable.

January 30, 2018 – Today, Lori Trahan’s campaign announced the endorsement of the Local 853, which represents the Professional Firefighters of Lowell.

“As someone who comes from a union household and was raised in a working class family, combined with her proven leadership in business, Lori is uniquely positioned to fight for the rights of working men and women,” said Dave Keene of Lowell Firefighters Local 853. “Lori shares the same ideals as the more the 200 firefighters in Lowell, and we are proud to stand with her and support her campaign to represent our community in Washington.”

“Firefighters, like the men and women of Local 853 and countless others like them, are on the frontlines keeping members of our communities safe,” said Trahan. “I intend to go to Washington and fight for fire department resources, such as Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grants, so that every single firefighter returns home safely after a shift.”

With its roots going back nearly 200 years, the Lowell Fire Department responds to over 10,000 calls for service each year.

Today’s announcement represents the third labor endorsement for Trahan, with the Teamsters Local 25 in Boston offering their support in December, along with the Ironworkers Local 7 — Lori’s father’s union — earlier this month.

Two major themes of Lori Trahan’s bid for the 3rd Congressional District stem from her roots.

Q4 Report Will Show 73% of Donations from Inside 3rd District; 83% from MA

Today, Lori Trahan’s campaign announced strong fundraising support in 2017, ending the year with more than $550K in contributions.

The campaign’s Jan. 31 FEC filing will show a total of $310K raised in Q4, on top of $240K collected in Q3, and cash-on-hand of more than $500K at year-end.

“I am incredibly grateful and humbled for the support I have received which will enable me to communicate directly with voters over the coming months,” said Trahan. “But more than the dollar amount, what I’m most proud of is the fact that most of my support is coming from the community where I was born and raised, and where I’ve lived all my life.”

Other notable Q4 stats:

• More than half of all donations from the 3rd District
• Nearly 3/4 of total donations from Massachusetts
• 83% of total donors live in Massachusetts

This number now positions Trahan as the female candidate for the 3rd Congressional District with the strongest fundraising numbers for 2017. Trahan has earned endorsements from the Lowell delegation of state Representatives (Rep. Thomas Golden, Rep. David Nangle, Rep. Rady Mom), along with Stephen Zanni, the former Mayor of Methuen, and several labor unions – Boston’s Teamsters Local 25 and the Ironworkers Local 7.

January 12, 2018 – Today, Lori Trahan’s campaign announced the endorsement of the International Association of Iron Workers Local 7, the same union which Lori’s father, Tony Loureiro, belonged to during his long career as a laborer and ironworker. The endorsement took place at the New Lowell Justice Center in downtown Lowell.

“We believe that Lori understands our views and will continue Niki Tsongas’ fight for working families of today and tomorrow,” said Richard Abbott, President of Local 7. “We need more people like Lori who are willing to do the hard work required of our elected leaders.” Read the letter from Local 7.

“Words cannot express my appreciation for the support of Local 7 — my father’s union whose members are like an extension of my own family,” said Trahan.

“Despite record highs in the stock market, it’s getting harder for working families like the one I was raised in to make ends meet, get an education and own a home. This isn’t right,” added Trahan. “As a member of Congress, I will fight for the hardworking men and women who’ve been left behind by a dysfunctional system in Washington.”

Chartered in 1896 as a part of the International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental, and Reinforcing Iron Workers, Local 7 is home to over 3,000 Ironworkers across New England.

Today’s announcement represents the second labor endorsement for Trahan, with the Teamsters Local 25 in Boston offering their support in December, along with recent endorsements from Stephen M. Zanni, former Mayor of Methuen, and the Lowell delegation of state representatives — Rep. David Nangle, Rep. Tom Golden and Rep. Rady Mom, all Democrats.

In a press release declaring his support, Zanni said he wants a congresswoman “who will cut through red tape and support our local businesses,” and touts Trahan as that person.

“We need a strong middle class and solid businesses to support them. I’m impressed with Lori’s background managing a congressional office and interfacing with regional economic development organizations, along with her leadership experience in business,” Zanni said.

The outgoing mayor said he’s confident Trahan would be a “tireless and successful advocate for Methuen and the Merrimack Valley in Washington.”

December 20, 2017 – Today, Lori Trahan’s campaign announced the endorsement of Stephen J. Zanni, Mayor of Methuen. With a population of more than 47,000 residents, Methuen is the 4th largest city in the 3rd Congressional District.

“I want a congresswoman who will cut through red tape and support our local businesses,” said Mayor Zanni. “We need a strong middle class and solid businesses to support them. I’m impressed with Lori’s background managing a Congressional office and interfacing with regional economic development organizations, along with her leadership experience in business. With these skills I am confident she will be both a a tireless and successful advocate for Methuen and the Merrimack Valley in Washington.”

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of Mayor Zanni, who has long been a tireless public servant on behalf of the people of Methuen,” said Trahan. “As a member of Congress, I will continue Mayor Zanni’s work to fight for a vibrant regional economy, and support the hardworking families of Methuen and the surrounding area.”

Today’s announcement represents the first Mayoral endorsement of Trahan’s campaign, and follows recent endorsements from the Teamsters Local 25 in Boston, along with the Lowell delegation of state representatives – Rep. David Nangle, Rep. Tom Golden and Rep. Rady Mom, all Democrats.
